Mount Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro Hiking Trips

At a height of 4,566 meters (14,980 ft), Mount Meru is a dormant strato-volcano located in Arusha National Park, 70 Kilometers (43 miles) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in the country of Tanzania. Typically, Mount Meru Climb takes four days, but it can be done in 3 days to complete a trek to the Summit. It is considered a choice climb for acclimatization before attempting the Mount Kilimanjaro hike. A Kilimanjaro climb is one of the most exciting experiences when you travel in Africa, and should join your “must do” list when you are traveling to Tanzania. It usually takes between 5 and 8 days to reach the Mount Kilimanjaro Summit at Uhuru Peak, at 5,895 meters above sea level, is the highest freestanding peak in Africa.

Not to be forgotten are the coastal attractions of Zanzibar and Pemba Islands. Zanzibar, also known as Unguja is the largest and most populated island of the Zanzibar archipelago. The island has a rich history that dates back several hundred years. It is a cauldron of cultures with African, Arabic, Persians, European, Chinese and Indian influences. It was also the capital of the East African Slave Trade, and some of these museums are still found on the island. An excellent place to relax, it is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Eastern Africa.

About 80 kilometers northeast of Zanzibar Island, is its twin sister, Pemba. A quiet and yet to be developed part of the islands of the Indian Ocean. It is smaller than Zanzibar Island and has a gentle, hilly landscape. Off its shores are some of the best deep sea diving locales in Africa, with an almost unending coral reef and an astonishing array of fish species.
