Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival – Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

In the morning, you will be met at your residence or at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by the Tour Manager and the driver/guide. They will brief you on your safari then immediately depart to Samburu National Reserve. You will have two stops on the way to view scenery as well as take some photos at the equator and arrive in Samburu in time for lunch at your lodgings. After lunch, depart for afternoon game viewing where you will have the chance to spot the northern specialties as well as some of the most endangered species in Kenya. In the evening, you will be transferred back to Samburu Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Samburu National Reserve is a wildlife haven. Here you will spot Africa's big cats-lions, cheetahs and the elusive leopard. Some animals are unique to this northern Kenya Park; gravy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, kudus and gerenuk. The Ewaso Nyiro River, which is the boundary with the neighboring Buffalo Springs National Reserve, is where the elephant buffalo and other animal species gather for a drink. You will find the scenic semiarid landscape quite dramatic. The reserve is located within the lands of the colorful semi-nomadic Samburu tribesmen.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve (Full Day)

After breakfast, you will carry packed picnic lunch and depart for a full day of game viewing within this extensive reserve where you stand a chance to see elephants, lions, and the northern specialties such as the Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx and Gravy’s Zebras. You may also see crocodiles getting some sun on the sandbank or snapping their jaws during their feed. In one of the afternoons, we can organize a visit to the nearby Samburu Villages for a cultural visit (at an extra cost of $25 per person).

In addition to Kamunyak, the renowned lioness famous for adopting oryx calves, the Samburu National Reserve boasts of some several species of animals which are considered unique to the region, including its unique dry-country animal life. All three big cats, Lion, Cheetah and Leopard can be found here, as well as Elephants, Buffaloes and Hippos. Other mammals frequently seen in the park include Gerenuk, Grant's gazelle, Kirk's Dik-dik, Impala, Waterbuck, Grevy's Zebra, Beisa Oryx and Reticulated Giraffe. Rhinos are no longer present in the park due to heavy poaching. There are over 350 species of birds which include Somali Ostrich, Kingfisher, Sunbird, Bee-eater, Marabou Stork, Tawny Eagle, Bateleur, Guinea fowl and Vultures. The Ewaso Nyiro River contains large numbers of the Nile crocodile.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve – Lake Bogoria National Reserve

After breakfast at your camp, depart Samburu for Lake Bogoria arriving in time for a picnic lunch. After lunch you will drive to the lake for the spectacular scenery of stunning bird life, hippos and crocodiles. There is considerable geothermal activity with hot springs and geysers around the shoreline of Lake Bogoria. Occasionally, huge numbers of flamingos come to feed here, adding to the already famous bird life in the area. In the evening, you will be transferred back to your camp for overnight stay.

Lake Bogoria is not often visited by tourists and yet it has stunning scenery. Bogoria is a soda lake hence does not have any outlet. Intense evaporation has led to high levels of salt and minerals. Beautiful and captivating hot springs and baths provide a natural spa for visitors in as much as they are dangerous. The lake has an absence of fish due to high salt levels but its waters contain the blue-green algae which tend to attract thousands of flamingos seasonally and turn the shores pink. Bushy grasslands surround the lake and visitors can spot a variety of animals here including the buffalo, zebra, impala, greater kudu, leopard, gazelle, caracals, klipspringers and dik dik.

Day 4: Lake Bogoria – Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast you will depart Lake Bogoria National Reserve and head into Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in the afternoon in time for lunch at your lodge. After lunch, you will have a short rest before departing for afternoon game viewing till evening when you will be transferred back to your camp for overnight and dinner.

Lake Nakuru National Park is a sea of flaming pink as far as the eye can see. These millions of flamingos are always seeking for their food in the salty deep green waters of Lake Nakuru. The protected area is primarily for birds of which 400 to 500 species can be found here including cormorants and pelicans. Visitors to Lake Nakuru National Park are also sure to catch a glimpse of Thomson gazelle, impala, waterbuck, giraffe, buffalo, white and black rhino as well as baboon.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park – Lake Naivasha

Early in the morning, depart for a pre-breakfast game viewing then return to your lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru and head to Lake Naivasha. Upon arrival you will check in to your camp and depart with a packed picnic lunch for a tour around the lake. You may also opt to go for hiking or rock climbing as well as biking safaris. In the evening you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Lake Naivasha is the highest of all the Rift Valley Lakes at 1880 m above sea level. This area is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 450 species of recorded birds in the area. A small islet on the lake is home to a number of wildlife. One can enjoy a boat safari, viewing wildlife and birds from the tranquil lake. A private ranch (Kongoni Game Sanctuary) located in the area which is a home to lions, leopards, cheetah and some trans-located Grevy's zebras.

Day 6: Lake Naivasha – Hell’s Gate National Park - Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, you will depart with packed picnic lunch and visit Hell’s Gate National Park where you will spend the rest of the day enjoying biking, hiking, or rock climbing as you enjoy game viewing. In the evening, you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and overnight.

Hell's Gate National Park provides a truly panoramic picnic site, camping stop over and is also an endless biodiversity which allows walking or cycling without an official KWS escort. It has spectacular scenery, despite its rather alarming name, including the towering cliffs, water gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub-clad volcanoes and belching plumes of a natural geothermal steam. It is a relatively small park cleft deep in the floor of the Rift Valley. In the undulating grasslands, you can walk alongside herds of buffalo, zebra, giraffe, eland and hartebeest and Thompson’s Gazelle. The park has a unique bird viewing hide which allows visitors to view and photograph the birds of prey at a close range. The hide is booked as a small fee via the warden of the park. The Fischer’s Tower is a high jagged volcanic plug that remained of an ancient volcano and is named after the German explorer, Gustav Fischer. According to the local Maasai tradition, the rock is the petrified figure of a chief’s daughter who turned around, against the dictates of tradition to take one last look of her village before leaving to be married. The Ol Karia Geothermal Station also lies in this park, being one of the hottest sources of natural steam in the world with an underground water temperature of 304oC.

Day 7: Hell’s Gate National Park – Maasai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast you will depart Lake Naivasha for the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve arriving in time for lunch at your camp. After lunch, depart at 4.00pm to enjoy your first game viewing drive till evening. After your game drive, you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and overnight.

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve, now the 7th wonder of the world and 4th most preferred tourist destination in the world is a home to wildlife in such abundance and variety that it is difficult to imagine. The annual migration of wildebeest and zebras starts from the Serengeti as they search for water and pasture while at the same time being followed on their heels by the predators of the Savannah; Lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures. The reserve hosts over 450 species of animals which includes the lion, rhino, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, leopard, elephants as well as many kinds of antelopes.

Day 8 and 9: Maasai Mara National Reserve (2 Full days)

Spend two full days game viewing across the rich tree studded grasslands and rolling hills. The Maasai Mara is renowned for its great herds of plain game, black manned lion, leopard and cheetah and every type of wildlife in Kenya. Early in the morning, you will have the option of taking a hot air balloon flight safari which is conducted every day before sunrise, at an extra cost. (Optional: US$ 500 per person extra)

You can opt to carry out your game viewing activity on an adventurous and unforgettable balloon flight over the spectacular Mara at an extra cost. At that height, you can be able to view game from a bird’s eye view and also take pictures from that angle. This package includes a souvenir certificate and a champagne bush breakfast in the wild!

Day 10: Maasai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi

Enjoy early morning pre breakfast game viewing within the Mara Reserve then return to your camp for breakfast. You may also opt to go for a cultural visit to the nearby Maasai villages at an extra cost ($25 per person extra). After breakfast, you will carry a packed picnic lunch and depart for Nairobi where you will spend the night. You will arrive in the afternoon and be transferred to your hotel for rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Nairobi – Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, depart Nairobi city for Amboseli National Park for game viewing. You will arrive in time for lunch at your camp then depart for afternoon game viewing till evening. In the evening you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Amboseli National Park is famous for its huge elephant herds. Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro sits in the upper slopes of Amboseli national park. Mt Kilimanjaro snow white peaks lie across the border of Tanzania. Seeing Kilimanjaro hovering above the clouds in the early hours of the morning is quite an unforgettable experience. For an enthusiastic photographer, taking animal pictures arising against the dramatic backdrop of the mountain is quite a thrill. Apart from the elephants, buffaloes, black rhino and other plain animals are in plenty.

Day 12: Amboseli National Park (Full Day)

After breakfast, depart with a packed picnic lunch and spend the full day within Amboseli enjoying game viewing as well as the beautiful view of the highest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro and its snow covered peaks. Its snow-capped summit dominates the landscape and on a clear day is easily seen during early morning and late afternoon hours. You may also opt to go for a cultural visit to the nearby Maasai villages at an extra cost. In the evening you will be transferred back to your camp for overnight stay and dinner.

With an interesting combination of breath-taking scenery, people from a unique culture and beautiful animals are what make the park fascinating. Beautifully situated at the foot of the towering Kilimanjaro, it is the home of the brightly painted Maasai tribe. You may be able to see lions, cheetahs, spotted hyena, wild dogs, African Wild Buffaloes, zebras and herds of elephants. All this animals come to drink water at the water holes consisting of small lakes or muddy bonds kept filled up by the melting snows of Kilimanjaro.

Day 13: Amboseli National Park – Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast, depart Amboseli National Park and head into Tsavo West for more game viewing and bird watching. Arrive in time for picnic lunch at your camp then depart for afternoon game viewing. In the evening, transfer to your camp for dinner and overnight.

The Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks form one of the largest National Parks in the world and covers a massive 4% of Kenya’s total land. Tsavo West is the most famous of the two and is painted on a sprawling canvas of endless skies, hills, liquid lava flows, rivers, sparkling oases and a cloud shadowed African Savannah. The magic Mzima Springs is fed by over 250 million liters of fresh water gushing from the lava flows of the Chyulu Hills. It provides a continuous supply of water to Mombasa town. The park is famous for the numerous prides of mane-less lions that patrol the plains and predate on the herbivore herds. It offers some of the most magnificent fame viewing in the world with vast herds of dust-red elephant, hippo, giant crocodile and a wide variety of bird life.

Day 14: Tsavo West National Park (Full Day)

After breakfast, depart with packed picnic lunch for a full day game viewing within Tsavo West National Park where you will visit Shetani Lava Flows and Mzima Springs among other attractions as you enjoy game viewing till evening. In the evening you will be transferred back to your lodge for overnight stay and dinner.
