12 Days Kenya Tanzania Photographic Safari
This 12 Days Kenya and Tanzania Photographic Safari Itinerary safari will allow us to enjoy some of the highlights of Tanzania’s famed northern safari circuit, including the great wildlife sanctuaries of Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Think of this tour as an African photo adventure rather than a hard-core photography workshop. We emphasize the fun of exploration and discovery that comes with photographing the wildlife of this incredible place.
Kenya and Tanzania are legendary for their stunning National Parks and people… Masai tribesmen herding their cattle in the open field of the vast grass land… great game from Lions, to Hippos, to Rhinos… the towering, cloud-shrouded peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Itinerary - 12 Days Kenya and Tanzania Photographic Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi - Amboseli
Depart Nairobi at 7am after a delightful breakfast and drive south across the Athi Plains, home of the Masai and on to Amboseli. Amboseli is renowned for its large herds of free-ranging African elephants as well as huge herds of wildebeests and many other animals including giraffes, African lions, monkeys, zebras, hyenas and antelope with Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak providing a beautiful backdrop. We arrive early midday and freshen up, followed by lunch and a short rest. You later explore the Amboseli plains in an evening game drive at 1600 hours. Dinner and Overnight at AA Amboseli Lodge.
Day 2: Amboseli National Park
Early morning game drive, return to camp for breakfast. After breakfast full day spent in the park with packed lunch in search of its popular residents like the well-known predators and their opponents like the Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Hippo with a view of Mt Kilimanjaro. The Amboseli national park captivates international attention with its free-roaming giant elephants along with lions, buffaloes and leopards. The Observation hill in Amboseli safari infuses a thrilling spirit of holiday in visitors with its grand view of elephants, hippos, buffaloes and marvelous Egyptian pelicans. The sumptuous snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli National Park might just take your breath away for a moment. Later return to your camp for Dinner and Overnight at AA Amboseli Lodge.
Day 3: Amboseli National Park – Lake Nakuru.
After breakfast, we head back towards Nairobi (stopover for lunch) and continue driving through the stunning scenery of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley to explore Lake Nakuru National Park. The woodland and grassland surrounding the soda lake are home to an abundance of wildlife including black rhino, white rhino, hippo, leopard, lion and the rare Rothschild giraffe. Upon arrival at Nakuru, the guide will get a picnic lunch, and you will proceed direct to the park. Lake Nakuru is really known for the flamingo’s and endangered species, the Rhino’s. You will do the game drive till evening at around 1800hrs. Dinner and overnight at Waterbuck Hotel.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara.
After breakfast, leave the Nakuru hotel and descend to Lake Naivasha for an Optional activity, at least a boat ride to watch the Birds and hippos at a close distance. Leave Naivasha via Narok town for lunch and refueling. Our journey stretches into the Maasai plains, upon arrival check in to your camp. We will start the first introduction game drive in the afternoon, tracking various animal species and birds which inhabit the Masai Mara National Park with your driver guide till sunset. Dinner and overnight at AA Mara Lodge or similar.
Day 5: Masai Mara Game Tracking.
Our day starts with the breakfast at the camp and by 8 am we leave the with picnic lunches for an extensive game drive. The landscape here is scenic savanna grassland on rolling hills. The reserve is the best park for game in Kenya as it has an extensive road and track network which allows for close range viewing and photography. A game drive to Mara river which is a point of migration and a point to spot the crocodiles and hippopotamus. Break for your picnic lunch after viewing the hippos and crocodile. Game drive will continue till 1700hrs, get out of the park for 2hrs of optional activities. Dinner and overnight provided at AA Mara Lodge or similar..
Day 6: Masai Mara
Morning and evening game drives with optional balloon safari — Many call it a once in a life time experience, once you are up, you won’t want to come down, and once you land, champagne breakfast awaits you. Game viewing is great from the air with the opportunity for beautiful pictures.
The annual wildebeest migration is expected in the Masai Mara between July and early November. Thousands of animals migrate to the Mara from Serengeti in search for fresh, green pastures and water. It’s worth noting that every game drive is different from the other, and missing one is missing out on the fun. Overnight at AA Mara Lodge or similar. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 7: Masai Mara - Migori.
After breakfast at the hotel, we take the final game drives at this renowned wildlife sanctuary. After lunch, we depart the park and drive towards Lake Victoria to the town of Migori passing through lush countryside. We arrive at the shores of Africa's largest fresh water inland sea. Dinner and overnight will be served at Florence Hotel in Migori.
Day 8: Masai Mara - Serengeti.
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Serengeti National Park, arriving in time for lunch at the Serengeti Wild Camp. The park is located in the northern part of Tanzania and is widely known for the massive annual migration of the Wildebeest and Zebras, which move from one point to another in search of a new grazing area. Some cross the crocodile infested Grumeti River while others veer northeast to Lobo Hill’s home for the black Rhino and black eagles. Early breakfast at your hotel, meet the guide for briefing then depart Arusha for Serengeti arriving in time for lunch, little siesta followed by afternoon game drive till sunset. Dinner and overnight will be served at Serengeti Wild Camp.
Day 9: Serengeti National Park Game Viewing.
Leave the camp with picnic lunches and embark on a full day game drive in this Savannah grassland park, tracking various species of animals. Serengeti is massive, and your guide will be helpful in the search for Animals. The big five can be seen here and large groups of wildebeest. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Wild Camp or Similar.
Day 10: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater.
After breakfast, we depart the Serengeti game viewing as we exit. We drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with lunch’s en route. Ngorongoro crater is one of the seven wonders in Africa. In the afternoon, we descend the crater and enjoy an afternoon exploration of this unique wildlife sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge or similar.
Day 11: Ngorongoro Crater
Breakfast at Rhino Lodge then leave for 6 hours’ game drive to the crater, Ngorongoro is a conservancy and all the vehicles are allowed to spend only 6 hours as per the Tanzania Ministry of Tourism. Descend the crater with game viewing, this is one of the seven wonders, and we are sure you will really enjoy the game drive. Ngorongoro hosts the remaining few Black Rhinos among other thousands of animals will as well be seen here, Have Picnic lunch at the crater rim later ascend to the gate and drive back to Rhino Lodge arriving late in the evening at around 1730hrs, dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge.
Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater - Lake Manyara - Arusha
Breakfast at Rhino Lodge, then leave for Lake Manyara. Spend the whole day viewing wildlife at this unique Rift Valley Animal Sanctuary, enjoy the birdlife which is prolific including thousands of flamingos that call this park lake. Lake Manyara National Park is also renowned for its unique tree climbing lions. In the evening depart the lake for Arusha which is reached in the evening to conclude your 12 Days Kenya and Tanzania Photographic Safari.
